Emerging technologies on the refrigeration, heating, ventilation and air-conditioning areas were the main subjects of the 4th Summer School of Refrigeration, held between February 20th and 23th, on the Jorge Caron Auditorium, Engineering School of Sao Carlos, University of Sao Paulo, Sao Carlos, SP.

On this year's edition the School had as its main theme Natural and Alternative Refrigerants and Solutions for Refrigerant Load Reduction. Its schedule envolved short courses in the morning period and lectures and round tables in the afternoon, whose themes were distributed along the days of the event in a thematic way: Air Conditioning, Industrial Refrigeration, Comercial Refrigeration and Domestic Refrigeration. The short courses and lectures were uttered by specialists from the Academy and the Industry.

Professors Cláudio Melo and Christian Hermes, from Polo, presented the most recent discoveries and tendencies in the Domestic Refrigeration area. According to Professor Melo, the event is important because it brings together academy, companies and specialists in the area, which allows the exchange of ideas between the different academic and industry groups.

About the EVR

The Escola de Verão de Refrigeração (Summer School of Refrigeration) is promoted by the Associação Brasileira de Engenharia e Ciências Mecânicas (ABCM, Brazilian Association of Engineering and Mechanic Sciences) once every 2 years. This event is held since 2012, when its first edition ocurred under coordination of Prof. Carlos Antonio Cabral dos Santos in the UFPB, on the Joao Pessoa Campus. The second School ocurred in the Escola Politecnica (Polytechnic School) of USP in January of 2013, coordinated by Prof. José R. Simões Moreira. On this edition, EVR transformed itself in an official ABCM event. The last edition of the Summer School ocurred in the Federal University of Brasilia in 2014, coordinated by Prof. João Pimenta.

The School is destined to graduation and postgraduation students, researchers, professors and professional from the industry working on refrigeration, ventilation, air conditioning and heating. Its goal is to be a learning, divulgation and discussion forum about emerging tecnologies on the area.
