For air conditioning applications, the research activities at POLO are focused on the comparison between rolling piston and scroll compressors, especially regarding the thermodynamic losses related to the compression cycle.  The objective of this activity is to identify which are phenomena that have the highest influence over the thermodynamic losses related to the compression process of these technologies. Moreover, it is also important to identify how these thermodynamic losses vary with respect to the different operating conditions that can arise in air conditioning applications. In this way, it is possible to identify the advantages and drawbacks of each technologies throughout the application envelope.
