After 32 years at the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC), Professor Cesar Jos\u00e9 Deschamps concludes a significant chapter of his professional career this Monday (31). Throughout this period, his dedication to research and the training of new professionals also fostered a relationship spanning more than two decades with the Stemmer Foundation for Research, Development, and Innovation (FEESC).<\/p>

Since April 2001, the professor has coordinated projects with the support of FEESC. Over the course of a 25-year partnership, the Foundation has managed 25 projects\u201415 of which were research-based\u2014involving a total value of approximately R$ 26 million. Beyond the financial figures, these initiatives also had a direct impact on academic training: 311 students participated in projects coordinated by Deschamps and managed by FEESC.<\/p>

A professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at UFSC, Deschamps holds bachelor's and master's degrees in Mechanical Engineering from the university and a doctorate in the same field from the University of Manchester in the United Kingdom. He will turn 65 in November.<\/p>

Throughout his career, he dedicated himself to teaching subjects such as Fluid Mechanics, Turbulent Flow Modeling, Compressible Flows, and the Theory and Modeling of Refrigeration Compressors. His research focused primarily on enhancing the thermodynamic performance of refrigeration compressors and reducing noise from aircraft engine jets.<\/p>

His career was also marked by the fostering of closer ties between the university, the productive sector, and funding agencies. The projects he developed received funding from both the private sector\u2014with companies such as Embraco, Embraer, and Whirlpool\u2014and public institutions like BNDES, Finep, and CNPq.<\/p>

For FEESC, retirement marks the conclusion of a phase in a partnership spanning more than two decades\u2014one that helped transform resources allocated for research into knowledge, technological development, and the training of hundreds of students.<\/p>
