Under certain operating conditions the refrigerator can send unwanted noise, such as noise expansion, the popping noise and scratching noise. Such noises are originated by the flow patterns and the change in phase of the refrigerant inside the pipe from the condenser to the evaporator. This problem has considerably increased the number of calls for service in recent years, generating unnecessary costs for manufacturers.

In order to meet the needs of industry, POLO is technically trained, and is now able to perform tests and propose viable solutions to such problems. Therefore, the laboratory has accelerometers and a high-speed camera, which, used in conjunction with displays and transparent filter driers made of acrylic and actual dimensions, allows real-time visualization of the flow pattern of the fluid. In addition, the laboratory has the AVL laboratory partnership UFSC, to perform more specific tests in anechoic and reverberation chambers.
