About the project

A “no-frost” fin-on-tube evaporator consists of an aluminum tube bended into a double-passage serpentine shape, with aluminum fins inserted perpendicularly to the tubes. Such concept was designed in order to enhance the heat transfer between the refrigerant fluid and the air. Besides that, such configuration maximizes the frost formation on the tubes and fins. An electrical heater, usually attached to the evaporator, is used to melt the frost and remove it through a drainage tube.

POLO has a wind tunnel to evaluate forced-draft heat exchanger effectiveness, as well as climate chambers to evaluate evaporators installed in appliances.
