Fans

The power consumption of a refrigerator is strongly influenced by the temperature distribution inside the compartments. This distribution, in turn, depends on the way in which the cold air circulates inside the refrigerator. The refrigerator efficiency can be improved and reduced energy consumption through a correct sizing of the air circulation system.

In order to enable the fluid characterization system, POLO has two wind tunnels specially designed to meet the flow and pressure ranges commonly found in domestic and commercial refrigerators. With such apparatus it is possible to determine the flow of air circulating in the refrigerator compartment due to the opening of the damper, and map the pressure drop of the air along the circuit. Furthermore, it is possible to obtain the performance curves of the fan and consequently the system operating point. POLO still has a anemometry system hot wire with 24 sensors that can be used to verify the stratification of the air velocity inside the compartments.
