Summary

Analysis of the flow inside the capillary tubes, expansion devices common in small refrigeration systems including domestic refrigerators and air conditioning equipment. This type of flow is quite complex, phase change involving turbulent flow, compressible, sonic and conditions of non-equilibrium thermodynamic. It presents a theoretical model for the simulation of flow, including the constitutive equations and simplifying assumptions, as well as the various existing empirical correlations in the literature for the evaluation of flow parameters. reliable experimental data are used for model validation, identifying which correlations that best reproduce. Use of the model for a comparative analysis, involving different operating conditions and geometries of the capillary, and three refrigerants, as an aid in understanding the overall performance of a capillary tube.
