Summary

A high difficulty in processing parts from metal p owder is to obtain the final geometry, as most parts are compacted in an uniaxial matrix. This limits the geometry, as well as engender a powder gradient along the part. Powder I njection Molding (PIM) has been an alternative to the conventional powder materials pr ocesses since it results in components with tridimensional shapes and density homogeneity . This is possible when powder is mixed homogeneously to an organic binder system, in a proportion of 40 to 60% in volume in order to achieve adequate rheological pro perties to be injected. The mixture behaves as a fluid and penetrates cavities with com plex shapes giving high geometric capability and density homogeneity to the process.
