Summary

A detailed thermal analysis of the suction system of compressors can lead to a considerable improvement in their performance, mainly through the reduction of gas superheating. However, a complete analysis of the involved phenomena requires also data from temperature transient, which is very difficult to obtain due to the very small time scale associated with the flow through the suction system. Thermocouples are the most commonly used sensors for gas and wall temperature measurement in compressors but, nevertheless, their slow response time make them inappropriate for instantaneous gas tempe rature measurement.
