Summary

This work deals with the modeling and the numerical investigation of a pneumatic piston of compressors employed in household refrigerators. The piston adopts a new conception where the coupling piston/cylinder is submitted to dynamic loads and aerostatically lubricated with its own refrigerant. The model considers the dynamic behavior of the piston, taking into account axial misalignments and radial displacements, as well as feeding orifices that keep a fluid film between the cylinder and the piston walls.
