Summary
Governing equations for average variables related to transport phenomena in saturated porous media are derived oii thé basis of the Continuum Mechanics. In the development, special attention is paid to the proper modelling of the unknovm terms that come out of the averaging process. The model is "closed" with the aid of experimental data and assumptions relative to the essence of some physical mechanisms. The resulting formulation is applied to a particular problem consisting of a parallel plates channel filled with packed spheres. The adopted approach and the influence of some important practical parameters are discussed based upon the obtained numerical results.
