Summary

The objetive o f this work is to develop an appropriate methodology to analyse the effect o f the attic type on thermal comfort. In doing so some computational models were developed to calculate i) shape factors between the attic surfaces, ii) shape factors between the human body and the surrounding surfaces, iii) sensation o f thermal comfort and iv) solar radiation and solar angles for the south hemisfere. Besides these models an attic energy balance algorithm was also developed. A new version o f the NBSLD program [11] was then developed incorporating the developed models. It is shown that the attic type ( shape, dimensions and type o f constructions ) has significative influence on the thermal comfort.
