It was held on October 17, at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), in Porto Alegre, the Symposium and Diploma of ABC Affiliate Members for the South Regional 2023 – 2027. On the occasion, the Brazilian Academy of Sciences received the five young and outstanding scientists who joined their team of academics for five years: Cristiane Regina Guerino Furini (PUC-RS), Cristina Furlanetto (UFRGS), Ethel Antunes Wilhelm (UFPel), Marcos Britto Correa (UFPel) and Jaime Andrés Lozano Cadena, Polo’s Professor.

The opening of the ceremony was led by regional vice-president of ABC, Ruben Oliven, who highlighted the diversity of institutions and gender among the new members. To represent them, the new members appointed researcher Ethel Wilhelm to read a joint letter. In their text, the affiliates reaffirm their commitment and support for Brazilian science. The affiliates hold their diploma ceremonies associated with scientific symposiums, where their main scientific research is presented.
